20th "Darmstadt" Molecular Modeling Workshop
Computer-Chemie-Centrum, 91052 Erlangen, Germany
Tuesday, May 23 – Wednesday, May 24, 2006
First circular
This year the 20th Darmstadt Molecular Modelling Workshop takes place May, 23rd and 24th,
immediately before Ascension Day. For the forth time, the workshop will be hosted by the
University of Erlangen-Nurnberg. The research groups of Professors J. Gasteiger and
T. Clark at the Computer Chemistry Center will be responsible for the technical organization.
Dr H. Gohlke, J.W. Goethe-University Frankfurt, will be responsible for the scientific organization.
This workshop encourages young scientists - especially undergraduate and graduate students -
to present and discuss their research topics. Young scientists at the beginning of their academic
careers will be able to meet new colleagues from academia and gain feedback from industrial colleagues.
Contributions are welcome from all areas of molecular modelling -
from the life sciences, computational biology, computational chemistry to material sciences.
Plenary lectures
We are pleased to announce the following confirmed plenary speakers:
Oral and poster presentations
Several reasons have prompted us to introduce English as the official workshop language this year.
(Oral presentations may still be given in German. However, please prepare slides in English in this case.)
Oral presentations should not exceed 20 minutes (including discussion); posters should be prepared in portrait format (90x140cm).
Talks with solely commercial content (i.e., that aim at advertising a product) will not be
accepted anymore. Detailed product presentations will be possible during the software/hardware
exhibition that takes place on both workshop days.
Awards
As in the past years, there will be two Poster Awards of 100 Euro each and three Lecture Awards for the best talks:
Winner: Travel bursary to the Young Modellers Forum in the United Kingdom (travel expenses are reimbursed up to 500 Euro)
2nd Winner: 200 Euro travel expenses reimbursement
3rd Winner: 100 Euro travel expenses reimbursement
Only undergraduate and graduate research students qualify for the poster and lecture awards.
A Web Award for WWW-based scientific applications in the field of molecular modelling will not be awarded this year.
The deadline for registration and submission of abstracts for oral and poster presentation is
30th April 2006.
Registration is only possible on-line.
Please submit abstracts for oral and poster presentation (one page DIN A4 format) no later than 30th April by e-mail
to Dr H. Gohlke (gohlke@bioinformatik.uni-frankfurt.de).
Use this Word template for abstract preparation.
Conference location
All talks, the exhibition, coffee breaks, and the buffet will take place at
the Institute of Organic Chemistry, Henkestraße 42. The poster sessions
are located in the Computer-Chemie-Centrum, Nägelsbachstraße 25.
Miscellaneous
Participants must organize travelling and accommodation on their own.
However, up to twenty travel bursaries of 100 Euro
each will be offered. These will be available only to undergraduate or
graduate research students. Written applications for a bursary must include a supporting reference letter from the research
project supervisor. Please address bursary applications either to
Dr. C.-W. von der Lieth (w.vonderlieth@dkfz-heidelberg.de ),
Prof. T. Clark (clark@chemie.uni-erlangen.de ),
or Dr. M. Krug (Michael.M.Krug@merck.de ).
For further information, and a list of already received abstracts, please visit this workshop website.
Please address additional questions regarding the organization of the workshop to
da.workshop@chemie.uni-erlangen.de.
The general meeting of the MGMS (German Section) will be held during the workshop.
The conference fee amounts to 50 Euro (Students: 25 Euro). This fee includes the annual membership fee for the MGMS DS.
We are looking forward to meeting you in Erlangen
