Collaborative Research Groups
Collaborative Research Groups ("Sonderforschungsbereiche") 583, 796 and 953
Collaborative Research Groups (SFBs) are long-term university research centres in which scientists and researchers work together within a cross-disciplinary research programme. They are funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG / German Research Funding) which is the central, self-governing research funding organisation that promotes research at universities and other publicly financed research institutions in Germany. Their purpose is to create core research areas at universities by establishing temporary centres of excellence (up to 12 years), to promote interdisciplinary cooperation and to advance young researchers.
Currently, there are three SFBs at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy:
- SFB 583 "Redox-Active Metal Complexes: Control of Reactivity via Molecular Architecture"
- SFB 796 "Reprogramming of host cells by microbial effectors"
- SFB 953 "Synthetic Carbon Allotropes"
