The Master study course Chemistry is in terms of content based on the  Bachelor-level program but is more discovery led. The regular period of study takes four semester including all exams and  Master thesis. You need 120 ECTS-Points to get a successful degree.

The Master-level program allows the students to focus on their chemical basic knowledge and it leads to self-contained analysis. The Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree is a further vocational and research qualification certificate of the scientific study. The teaching is done in English.

Condition for the allowance of the Master study course is a superior successful academic degree. The qualification will be detected with a certificate about:

  1. the Bachelor examination according to the examination regulation of the chemistry study course
  2. the Bachelor examination of an other German of foreign university
  3. the diploma, the Bachelor or Master of a German university of applied sciences or
  4. an other assimilable graduate degree.

Applicants according to 1. must have passed the Bachelor examination with an overall grade of at least "good" (= 2,5 or better) or they have passed the Aptitude Test.

Other applicants should be among the 20% best alumni of their year and should have passed their degree with an overall grade better than 2,5.

Applicants according to 2. till 4. will be taken if they have passed the Aptitude Test. The degrees that have been appraised with an other grading system must at least have an assimilable grade of "good".

The Master-level program is modularly structured.

It is subdivided into three main modules: Inorganic Chemistry (CK1 - 15 ECTS), Organic Chemistry (CK2 - 15 ECTS) and Physical Chemistry (CK3 - 15 ECTS)  during the first two semester and an mandatory elective module [15 ECTS] (selectable from a predefined list with 5 possible mandatory elective modules CWP1 - CWP5) also in the 1.st and 2nd semester.

The 3rd semester is composed of an elective module [15 ECTS] and  the advanced studies phase (selectable from the subareas Inorganic Chemistry (CV1), Organic Chemistry (CV2), Physical Chemistry (CV3) or Theoretical Chemistry (CV4) with an amount of 15 ECTS that helps to lead-in to the Master Thesis in the 4th semester.

Here you can find the specialization module form. Please hand in the completed and signed form to the Study-Service-Center (room TH 1.804, Egerlandstraße 3, 91058 Erlangen) until the beginning of the 3rd Master semester.

The selection of the mandatory elective module [CWP] has to be bindingly announced at the beginning of the Master-level program. The selection of the elective module [CV] can be announced during the first two semester. Here you can find more information about the module selection.

The Module Guide (German version) describe the contents of the specific courses of the modules.
