Excursion to Bamberg

On Wednesday, July 19, 2000, there will be an excursion to the lovely medieval town of Bamberg. Participants will meet in Erlangen at 12:30 in front of the church "St. Bonifaz", quite close to the Institute of Organic Chemistry (for technical reasons). We will be picked up by two buses. Sack lunches will be provided within the buses. We will be taking a ca. 45 min. ride to end up in Bamberg at the "Schranne". There we will be picked up by three tourist guides, the sightseeing tours will be in German, English, and French. We will be undertaking a town tour of ca. 2.5 - 3 hrs, visiting the most prominent places in Bamberg (cathedral, old town hall which is built into the river Regnitz, Little Venice, St. Michaelsberg Monastery, New Residence and many more).

The sightseeing tours will be guided by the approved team of Bernhard Metzner. The tours will be in English, French, and German. On the above link you will find some of the places which will be visited.

Approximately in the middle of our sightseeing tour we will be having a coffee break in the beautiful "Rose Garden". The sightseeing tour will be ending (provided the weather is good) at the "Spezial Keller". This is the most beautiful beer garden in Bamberg, built on a hill (Stephansberg) with a beautiful sight across the town of Bamberg and its surrounding hills. The beer you will get there is the typical Bamberg "smoked beer", brewed in the "Spezial" brewery (don't mix up with the second Bamberg brewery of smoked beer, the "Schlenkerla"). There will be also facilities for dinner, taste the Bamberg specialties, e.g. sausages. At 8:30 pm, after a 10 min walk downhill, we will meet at the "Schranne" (the place where we arrived), the buses will take us back to Erlangen.

Please accept that our Workshop budget is not very splendid, so please pay yourself for drinks and food during our stayings at the Rose Garden and the Spezial Keller.
